Tired of your regular cup of joe? For this week’s #FoodhalltestKitchen, @shashanklohia tried three different frosty formats of #coffee! Start off with a cup of cold #brew coffee, steeped overnight, and experiment with these variations: 1. 1 cup Cold brew + 200 ml low sugar tonic: An acquired taste, but for those who love coffee this is a refreshing and citrusy drink, thanks to the spritzy #tonic. A great way to pull yourself out of an afternoon slump! 2. 1 cup Cold brew + ½ cup dairy milk: A more familiar flavour profile, the milk takes the edge off and makes this a highly sippable bevvie for a morning jump start. 3. Cold brew + condensed milk: One part drink and one part dessert, this #VietnameseCoffee packs a double punch of caffeine and #sugar for an energising cup. Works great as a daytime pick-me-up!

#FoodhallTestKitchen - Microwave Mug Cakes: Wondering how to achieve the best crumb in a matter of minutes? Microwave #MugCakes are an Instagram sensation, but they can be pretty disappointing in real life. So we tested 3 recipes to make sure you to get that quick dessert fix, with the best taste. • Method: Simply combine the ingredients with a spoon or fork in a microwave proof mug • Time: 2 minutes each 1. Eggless - ¼ cup all purpose flour, 2 tbsp cocoa powder, ¼ tsp baking powder, 2 tbsp sugar, ⅛ tsp salt, ¼ cup milk, 2 tbsp oil, few drops of vanilla essence The result - Gummy texture and the cake became drier as it got cold. 2. With egg - 4 tbsp all purpose flour, 4 tbsp sugar, 1 medium egg, 3 tbsp milk, 3 tbsp oil, few drops of vanilla essence The result - A clear #winner, among the three if we had to choose! This closely resembled a regular oven-baked cake. 3. #Vegan & gluten free - 3 tbsp oat flour (or any millet flour), 1 tbsp cocoa powder, pinch of salt, ½ tsp baking powder, 2 tbsp raw sugar (or any sweetner of your choice), 1 tbsp coconut oil, 3 tbsp almond milk (or any dairy free milk), ½ tsp vinegar (for the rise), few drops of vanilla essence The result - The batter puffed up like a marshmallow and then, as soon as the microwave turned off, it deflated like a flat tyre. We wouldn't recommend this one! If you're ready to take kitchen experiments a bit more seriously, join us for the virtual cooking classes by FCS At Home. #FoodhallTestKitchen: Everyone has their own patented method of making the perfect cup of #chai, but which is the best? All water? Water first, then milk? All milk? We tested out the 3 most popular chai #brewing techniques so you don’t have to guess anymore! 1. Just Water: True #tea drinkers know this is the OG way to consume the beverage. With no milk or sugar to dilute the flavour, this brew packs the maximum flavour (when brewed right). Boil a cup of water and add tea leaves of your choice just before the water reaches a boil. Wait until you get the desired colour and remove from heat. 2. Water & Milk: For when you love your tea but prefer a milder brew, make your tea as mentioned above and add a little milk after you’ve poured the tea in your cup. By brewing the tea in water and not #milk, you’ll ensure you still get maximum flavour but it’s softened ever-so-slightly with the milk (sugar optional) 3. Just Milk: There’s a certain element of nostalgia when it comes to “doodh wali chai”. From Share Bazaar in Calcutta to every nook and corner in #Bombay, this kadak chai loaded with sugar is brewed purely in milk until it reduces to 2/3rd its volume. Simply add a spoon of tea leaves to a cup of milk and brew on a medium to high flame. Add in a teaspoon of sugar as well and watch the colour deepen. Want to experiment more in the kitchen?
